Shoreline Amphitheatre was built in the mid-1980s by the city of Mountain View, in cooperation with local promoter Bill Graham. Including the parking lot areas used for festival stages, this San Francisco Bay Area venue can accommodate up to 30,000 visitors at once. Its design was inspired by the cover of Steal Your Face, an album by the Grateful Dead, who were originally slated as the venue’s inaugural act in 1986. But due to Jerry Garcia’s health problems, the band was forced to cancel, making Rosanne Barr and Julio Iglesias the first acts to perform at Shoreline. Since then, it has hosted top contemporary artists from around the world, as well as some of the country’s biggest symphonies and orchestras.
